Pippen Goes to the Vet

Oh, Pippen. She's been so healthy most of her life, but has had a few hiccups this year. A few months ago she had a fever, which was caused by quite a bump and infection on her neck which lead to many rounds of antibiotics and, ultimately, having to be put under and have the wound flushed and drained. Poor little Pippen! I hate to see either of my doggies sick or suffer.

A lot of scotties seem to be having some itchiness issues this fall, so when mine became itchy I didn't think too much about it. But a few days ago she chewed herself a pretty nice sized hot spot on her butt that started to ooze and just look all around icky. So we took her in to the vet just to make sure she's ok. The vet said it was most likely from a flea bite and that some dogs are very sensitive and even one bite can cause a bad reaction. Needless to say, we have vacuumed and washed bedding and both doggies got their much needed dose of Frontline!

Here's Pippen waiting anxiously for the vet to come
and see her!

Poor Pippen had to have the spot around the hot spot shaved and cleaned. She got a cortisone shot to help with the itching and has more antibiotics to take. And the WORST part of all?! When we're not home she had to wear the CONE! Sigh, poor Pippen.

A Pawject of LOVE and MORE information...

Hello all! So very close to Christmas, which is a time filled with love and family, it's awful to hear of bad things happening. Thanks to Frankie Furter , and many others, for posting about Sandra and the tragedy that struck her and her pittie pack.  Please see below and help if you are able.

A Memory Quilt for Sandra is being Planned. It will be Queen Sized and will have the five Angels' likenesses appliqued on it. The quilt will be made by Agnes Bullock... of the Dachsies With Moxie. It will be ready by Valentine's Day. Agnes (affectionately know as.. What's Her Name, by her furbabies) had an even MORE wonderful Idea.. She is willing to put a bit of YOU into the quilt. Agnes will stitch a Small (6 inch SQUARE) bit of cloth that Means something to YOU into the quilt. That way Sandra will have the most PERSONAL tribute to her beloved ones possible.
You have seen some of Agnes' wonderful quilts on Twix, Sarge, and This Blog. She does Wonderful Work!!! It will be something for Sandra to keep for EVER.
If you would like to send a BIT of YOU to be included in the quilt we know that it would mean so much to Sandra. WHAT would work? Bits of your furst Blankie... scraps of beloved Stuffies... material from your favorite BED or a Tee Shirt or other of your "clothes".. heck... even a piece of your Baff Towel. Remember Whatever scrap of TREASURE you choose... must be WASHABLE and it must be Flat... Not like a Collar or a Rope toy.. so that it can actually be stitched into the quilt. I think you get the idea. Just make it be something that has Meaning to YOU. I KNOW... you don't want to cut up a treasure... but it is a small scrap... and that little Hole that is left behind for You to see will help remind you of what you DO have. Small sacrifice on OUR part... to Help Fill a HUGE HOLE in Sandra's World. RIGHT?

DEADLINE to SEND your Beloved piece of your Cat or Dog's LIFE... is

January 16,2012.

Please Email Agnes at trainwife1962 AT hotmail DOT com for the Address of WHERE to send your 6 inch square. You MUST say: Pittie Pack Quilt in the subject Line To ENSURE that it does not go to SPAM... You will receive a reply with the mailing Address.

Once you have your 6 inch square ready to mail....

PLEASE be SURE to include your Name(s) and your Blog Name and URL... as Sandra will want those..

AND.... Tell her WHAT the scrap of material CAME from and What it Means to YOU and a brief description of the scrap!!! The Description (color, pattern, etc.) will help Sandra to LOCATE that bit of LOVE (that You are sending her) on the quilt. These Letters will all be Saved and Sent to Sandra along with the quilt.
PLEASE feel free to copy and paste this to post on Your Blog!!!!!
We want to get the word out to all who might want to be included in the quilt.

NOW I have a bit more information for you.... If you would like to help Sandra and her family BEYOND what you have so generously done... some of us have been working behind the secenes and have come up with this... Since they lost EVERYTHING... and are currently staying with Family... Space must be considered along with everything else... So Gift Cards seem to be the best way to go. There are BOTH a Target and A Wal-Mart very near. Of course you do know that WAL-Mart is where Shelby was Found by Sandra.
I KNOW that many of you would like to buy actual Presents for Sandra, Josh, the Baby and Bella and Brinks... but we MUST consider all the ins and outs... It would be for the Best to allow Sandra to purchase what is needed and not overwhelm everyone in the household. Perhaps they would even need some food items for their CHRISTMAS DINNER. Yes, my dear friends... Gift Cards would be MOST APPRECIATED.

If you would like the Addy for where they are staying please EMAIL me... with Sandra's Addy in the Subject line frankiefurter AT wildblue dot NET

Little Baby Pippen

Justice for Chief

I came across an awful and disturbing story recently. I know many of you may have also seen it through other sources or through my own Facebook or Twitter. I need to write about it and post it here and try to reach as many people as possible. I also feel like the more people who post or express their outrage and concern about, the better for Chief and his poor human. At the very least he will know that Chief is not forgotten and that there are quality, loving people in this world.

Our friends over at Rock Creek Scotties has a post about lovely little Chief. Chief was in his own back yard in Burlington, Iowa when someone, or someones, trespassed into the yard and assaulted him viciously. Chief, like a good Scottie, tried to fight for his life but lost his battle and passed over the Rainbow Bridge 6 days later on November 29th. Chief's human, Patrick Koval, is offering a $1000 reward for anyone who can help him find the cowardly lowlifes that did this to Chief. There is also a Facebook page Justice for Chief. You can also read more about the story here. Warning, there may be some disturbing pictures or descriptions on these sites. I know it was incredibly hard for me to look at the pictures of that beautiful dog and his injury. I could not even get through the news story, it is just too infuriating and emotional.

I'm sorry for such a downer post, but not everything in life is rosy. As much as I'd like to think that bad things don't happen to innocent little animals, children and people.....they do. Really awful things. Poor Chief suffered for days before ultimately dying from his injuries. The scary thing, from reading part of the news story, is that this happened when the family was home! I leave my dogs outside to play around while I sit inside and do housework or sew or whatever every day! I have a fenced yard, but so did Chief! This terrifies me as something happening to my dogs is one of my very greatest fears. They are like my children, I am here to protect them and care for them.

Please take the time to email the chief of police, news station, and the mayor of the area and DEMAND that acts of animal cruelty be treated seriously and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You can reach these people at these email addresses:

chief of police - lutteneggerd@burlingtoniowa.org
the mayor of Burlington, Iowa - ellb@burlingtoniowa.org
the local TV station - oreilly@foxnews.com
the local papers - news@thehawkeye.com

RIP Chief

In the Holiday Spirit

Wow! I am definitely feeling all holly jolly! My husband and I decided we would put up and decorate our tree tonight! We don't do a real tree and for the last several years we've had a nice little artificial tree we got from Target for $20. Last year I got brave and went to Target the day after Christmas stood in line and tried not to get trampled by crazy shoppers running through the store!! I got some great ornaments and decorations, but I also got a great deal on a tree 75% off! It's a 7.5 foot slim tree, which is great for our house since we have to move things around to make enough space for our tree! Here are some pictures of our adventure!  On a side note, Pippen put herself to bed during our decorating! At one point I went and got her and she spent a few minutes sniffing around before heading back to bed! What a silly girl!!

These are my favorite little snowfamily! I made them
long ago!!

1995!! Wow! I wish I could find cute little patterns like this
again! I would love some more!

I wrapped some gifts! Hopefully I remember what they are and
who they are for come Christmas day!!

Pippen wondering what the heck we are doing!!

Pippen sniffing around, trying to figure out if this is edible.

Jacque, however, was very curious and kept us company and
mostly stayed out of the way!

Look how darn organized I was last year?! Honestly
I don't remember doing this!!

After "losing" all our ornaments one year (translation, putting
them in a box we didn't recognize) we got smart and bought a
red and green container!

My husband, Anthony, putting our tree together!

Our stockings! We did find the 4th one a little later in the
bin with the wrapping.
look at that adorable Scottie stocking!!
Look at this adorable Scottie nativity! I got it at the same place I got
my wedding toppers! thepinkkoala on etsy!!

Some of my great Scottie ornaments!

This guy is my favorite! Look at his fun and festive little plaid vest
and, of course, his martini!! We joke that this is Jacque!!

Pippen's ornament from her first Christmas!
This happy little Santa always makes me smile (that sticker on there
is a nice warning that it's for decoration only, it's not a toy!)

I made some fun garland from scrapbook paper! I found a tutorial here.

Our finished tree!!

OH, this is the ornament that started it all. My mom had this ornament when I was growing
up and it was how I was introduced to the adorable little doggies called Scotties <3

Bath Time for Mr Jacque

We are having company over later today and I thought it was about time Jacque got a bath! He was not too thrilled, but he is always tolerant and good!

What a Great Birthday!

WOW! I had such a wonderful birthday that
started last Sunday at my family party!!

I got this adorable little Scottie dog dip tray!!

I got my favorite cake called Tangerine Dream! Mmmm....it really is!!

My husband and I went to Ikea and had my favorite breakfast of Swedish pancakes, fruit and a cinnamon roll!

And I bought stuff to create myself a space just for sewing! See that in front of the iron?! I also got a serger! I just took it out of the box. Truth be told, I am a bit scared to try it out!

I ate some tiramisu, which was delicious!!

I found some cute scottie stuff at Home Goods! That is a cookie jar in the back that I am going to use for Jacque and Pippen's biscuits!

It was such a GREAT birthday! I'm so grateful to all my loving
friends and family who sent me wonderful birthday wishes!
Can't believe another year has gone by already!
