Noodle-Head Sew Along Day 4

Oh my! Can't believe it's day 4 already! It's going by so fast! Today was the dreaded zipper day! I thought maybe I would try an invisible zipper, but decided just to follow along and use a normal zipper I already have.

So I basted the seam where the zipper will go....

The pinned the zipper face down onto one edge of the seam...

Then closed the zipper and pinned zipper down and basted in place.

Turn the skirt right side out and sew around the zipper, about 1/4 inch from the seam, pivoting at the bottom sewing across the zipper then back up the other side!

Pick out the basting stitches and you'll have a nice little zipper!

Tomorrow.....finishing!!!

Some random pictures of Jacque and Pippen now. They haven't been in a post in a while and, darn it, that's just not right!!

Noodle-Head Sew Along Day 3

Day 3!! I'm getting so excited! The skirt is coming along and I'm so excited to finish it so I can wear it!

I folded, pressed and sewed the belt loop ties.

The interfaced waistband pieces got sewn together and the seams pressed open. Lots of work for my iron!

Belt loop ties were pinned in place.....

....then the right sides of the waistband was pinned to the right side of the gathered skirt. Remember to match your seams and use lots of pins! I only had one rogue gather that I needed to pick out and correct.

YEA!! It is looking like a skirt for sure now! Stay tuned.....tomorrow is the zipper!!

Day 2: Noodle-Head Sew Along

Ok folks! It's day 2 for the sew along! Today we sewed the pockets, the back and side seams! The side seams are a french seam, here is a nice tutorial. It basically hides the raw edges of the seam which keeps it from fraying, but also looks very nice!

I pinned my pockets.....

......and I sewed them.

Then I folded them over and basted the sides. Really, I did a bad job of taking enough pictures. Sorry! Noodle-Head has some great pictures!

Here's my lovely back seam all nicely zig zagged, sewed to the notch leaving room for the zipper and also pressed open. I also basted 2 lines across the top of the skirt to gather tomorrow!

Day 1: Noodle-Head Sew Along

It's the first day of this week long sew along! Today (well, technically I did this yesterday!) was the day to trace and cut out the pattern and fabric and put the interfacing on.

I bought my beautiful Bernina a few months ago and got serious about sewing again. The nice ladies over at Modern Domestic helped my learn more about proper machine care, but also introduced me to Swedish tracing paper! This stuff is awesome! You use it to trace your pattern so you don't have to cut your original and can make it again in a different size, or just keep it so it's worth more! You can also sew this paper, so you could sew yourself up a few pattern pieces to make sure they fit! I would recommend this stuff to anyone sewing with patterns...in fact, I have!!

Here are my lovely pattern pieces all nicely pinned to my fabric and waiting to be cut out! Another great tip I have learned is that good quality scissors are a must!! They make a world of difference! I got a very nice pair of Gingher dressmaker shears at Jo-Ann when they had them on sale and I don't know what I did before!!

I love sewing and the process of creating something!

Of course, how can I post without a picture of my Jacque and Pippen! They are definitely the leaders!!
